Wozniacki measures up second round opponent, Townsend
Caroline Wozniacki beat qualifier Julia Glushko 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of the ASB Classic, and while she says it perhaps wasn't the prettiest match, she's happy to go through with the win. She's hoping to improve on her game when she goes against Wildcard and former Junior Champ, Taylor Townsend, in the second round tonight. Wozniacki spoke last night about what she'll be expecting from Townsend's game :
"I know that she is a leftie, she serves big, and tries to hit hard from the first shot. She definitely takes the ball early. For me, it's all about just getting a lot of balls back, and trying and make her run. There are always young ones coming up, and for me it's all about my own game, and not too much about the opponent."
Taylor Townsend earlier had this to say about going up against top-seed Wozniacki :
"It’s totally exciting to be able to play Wozniacki after watching her in the US Open Final against Serena Williams. She has done so well in the past year, so it’s a very exciting match. Her game style is very fun to play, because it makes you play every point. She doesn’t make any mistakes. It will be easy to overplay against someone who plays like her, so for me I just want to stay in the point and stay solid, and take advantage of the opportunities I have."
