Ferrer for Five?
Top seed David Ferrer begins his bid for a fifth Heineken Open crown. Last year the Spaniard equaled Roy Emerson’s haul of four Auckland titles.
The Heineken Open is one of six events at which Ferrer won multiple titles during his career: Valencia (3), Acapulco (3), Bastad (2), Buenos Aires (2), ‘s-Hertogenbosch (2).
The three-time defending champion is chasing his fifth title here in his 10th appearance. The Spaniard will again be favourite to take out this year's Heineken Open title. David Ferrer will defend his fourth title at the 2014 Heineken Open. If Ferrer triumphs again he’ll surpass the legendary Australian Roy Emerson to become the greatest ever champion at the Heineken Open. A fitting result for a man who has shown such loyalty to Auckland.
He will play his second round match tonight. He will be facing Qualifier Donald Young.
