Big ATP Tour Finals for ASB Classic

The 2018 ATP Tour Finals kick off on Sunday 11 November in London and will feature a number of faces familiar to ASB Classic fans.

John Isner, who has been confirmed for the 2019 ASB Classic, finished the season ranked 10th in the world and will be making his debut at the prestigious end of year event after a career best year on Tour.  Isner has been drawn in the same group as Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Marin Cilic, with the top two playing off against the top seeds from the second group for ultimate honours.

The ATP Tour Finals cap off a strong season for the big-hitting American who achieved a career high of eight in the rankings, and defeated Cilic, del Potro and Zverev on his way to winning his first Masters 1000 title in Miami in April. Isner followed this up by capturing his fifth Atlanta Open title in six years and made it through to the semi-finals of Wimbledon.

Also featuring at the Tour Finals will be local favourite, Kiwi player Michael Venus, who has qualified for the ATP Tour Finals Doubles competition with his partner Raven Klassen.  The pair have had a successful year on Tour, having won at Marseille and finishing runner-up at four other tournaments (Wimbledon, ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Toronto and Tokyo).

Venus and Klassen, who make their team debut at the Finals after their first year as a pair, have been drawn in the opposite group to 2018 ASB Classic Men’s Doubles winners Oliver March and Mate Pavic, who have clinched the year-ending number one ranking and head in to the Finals as favourites.

ASB Classic Tournament Director Karl Budge says having players involved in the prestigious end of year event is a real boost for the tournament.

“Having players start their year in Auckland and go on to have such successful seasons is a badge of honour for us. We’ve always been proud of our ability to bring some of the world’s best talent to New Zealand, and having players go on and qualify for the Finals just emphasises that” said Budge.

With more players still to be announced over the coming weeks, the tournament is shaping up to be one of the most well rounded in recent times with strong fields for both the Women’s and Men’s weeks already confirmed.

The ASB Classic will span for two weeks; the women's tournament kicking off on December 31 to January 6 followed by the men’s tournament from January 7 to 12. Tickets are on sale to the general public through Ticketek. You can purchase tickets either online, over the phone on (0800 842 538) or in person at one of the agencies listed at ticketek.co.nz
