Some big tennis names practising at ASB Arena
It’s only a matter of days before the tournament main draw kicks off, and players are now practicing as much as they can in order to get ready for the 2014 season. The weather has been wonderful lately, which has made practice ideal for our players enjoying the outdoor courts.
Our fourth seed Sorana Cirstea was one of the first to arrive in Auckland, and she was hitting on Centre Court early this morning with Kiwi number one player Marina Erakovic. It’s the sixth year in row she has finished inside the Top 100 and second consecutive year in the Top 30.
Second seed and former Grand Slam Champion, Ana Ivanovic arrived yesterday. It is Ana’s first time in Auckland, and she is really excited to be here. She enjoyed her first practice on Centre Court. “It was lovely, I really enjoyed the court. It’s a very cosy Centre Court. I found it really nice”.
Former World number one, and tennis star Venus Williams landed at Auckland airport this morning, and had a two-hour workout on Centre Court this afternoon. Venus is in good form and is ready to start her season in Auckland.
The 2014 ASB Classic will have two former champions competing, the 2010 ASB Classic champion and 2011 finalist Yanina Wickmayer will be returning to Auckland. Top Seed Roberta Vinci will make her second appearance after reaching a career high-ranking of world no.13 in 2013.
